Standing With Flood-Affected Communities Across Upper Assam

When floods disrupt lives, relief is not only about delivering essential materials—it is about reaching people when they need support the most.

In 2026, Team Swastikam undertook a large-scale flood relief distribution initiative across multiple villages of multiple districts in flood affected Assam, with CSR support from a Manufacturing Unit through a Section 8 Company (NGO)

The journey was challenging. It involved difficult roads, heavy rainfall, material shortages, changing field conditions, financial intervals and long hours of transportation and coordination. But with the support of people and institutions on the ground, the Swastikam team continued moving forward until the final distribution was completed.

Reaching Beyond the District Headquarters

Our objective and work order was simple: to take relief to the communities who needed it, including families living in villages that are often difficult to reach during and after floods.

With support from district-level officials, disaster-management personnel, local administration, village leadership and community members, our teams were able to identify affected communities and organize distributions at the grassroots level.

The relief assistance reached:

The relief materials included essential household, hygiene and safety items such as Bedsheets and Pillows, Buckets, Cothing, Mustard Oil, Mosquito Nets, Slippers, LED Torches, ORS, Savlon, Bleaching Powder, Detergent and other essential supplies.

A Journey That Required Persistence

The programme was initially planned to begin at the end of August. However, shortages of essential materials and logistical challenges resulted in delays.

Distribution eventually began on 4 September 2026, with the teams completing the first two districts—Golaghat and Jorhat—within the first phase.

The work then had to pause while additional resources and materials were arranged. Once the required resources became available, the team immediately resumed procurement and field operations.

The journey to the remaining districts brought another set of challenges.

Heavy rainfall, difficult road conditions and the movement of a large container vehicle through challenging routes made the field operation particularly demanding. On one occasion, the team reached Charaideo only in the afternoon, making it impossible to begin distribution that day. The team returned the following day and continued the operation.

In Sibsagar, the team eventually deployed two field units simultaneously, enabling the distribution to be completed across five villages in a single day.

On 16 September 2026, Swastikam completed the distribution programme across all four districts, assigned by the Donor.

Behind Every Distribution Was a Team

A relief distribution of this scale is never the work of one organization or a handful of people.

It is the result of many hands working together.

From the officials who helped us understand the ground situation, to the village leaders who helped identify affected families; from the people who loaded and transported the materials, to the field volunteers who carried them into communities—every contribution mattered.
